Oxford Nanopore technology supports NHS pilot of rapid genomic testing for brain tumours
NHS England has announced a major pilot of rapid genomic testing for brain tumours, using Oxford Nanopore sequencing alongside specialist analysis software developed at the University of Nottingham. Building on work in Nottingham and Birmingham, the programme will extend testing across specialist centres in England, evaluating how rapid genomic analysis can be delivered at scale. The approach can provide a fuller molecular diagnosis within days rather than weeks and, in selected cases, an early tumour classification while surgery is still under way.
